The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highway has realized advisory to mandatory the FasTag for every new four wheeler vehicles from December 1. The FASTag device will be fixed on front windscreen to every new four wheelers by the automobile manufacturers and authorized dealers. This device will give facility of rid of the traffic on the toll booth.
What is FASTag
FASTag is a rechargeable card that uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. This card used on the car’s windscreen will be used to pay the toll tax. The owner of the vehicle has to link it to the prepaid account. The device will pay automatically toll tax without stopping and cash transactions.
The system was launched in 2014 as a pilot project in the highway between Ahmadabad to Mumbai. After the success of the first phase, the system was applied on Delhi-Mumbai on 4 November 2014 and Chennai-Bengaluru in July 2015. The FASTag payment method is currently working at about 370 toll plaza across the country National Highway.
When a fast-cared car arrives at the toll plaza, there will be a special lane for them. After getting in touch with a device engaged in this lane, the toll tax itself will be pay and the driver will cross the toll plaza without having stopped. Users will also receive SMS alerts for toll transactions, low balance, and other things.
The device will be legal for five years and customers can recharge it according to their needs. The FASTag will be able to recharge through credit/debit / NEFT / RTGS or net banking. This card will be able to recharge at least 100 rupees and maximum Rs 1 lakh.
According to the government of India’s notification, all the automobiles will not be registered without the fixed of FASTag from From December 1, 2017.
